The tragedy of sin is a guilty conscience. The great Apostle Paul states: “Now we know that whatsoever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped and all the world may become guilty before God.” (Romans 3:19)
It was David who pleaded with Jehovah God: “Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according to the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. (Psalms 51:1)
It was Judas, a devil-ridden sinner, who threw down the bloody coins in the court of the priest’s hall and remorsefully sobbed: “I have sinned.”
The publican, as Jesus portrays him, stood up in the temple with a guilty heart, and cried: “God be merciful to me a sinner.”
The sin of man is the heartbreak of God.
